Safety Culture:
At Apex Steel and Apex Tower Crane, we value the loyalty of our employees and strive to create an environment that fosters long term employee commitment to our company. This commitment helps enhance the attitude required to promote safety as a choice, rather than a requirement. We choose to promote a safety conscious culture through:

  • Ongoing Supervisor Training
  • 100% Safety Glasses Requirement
  • Northwest Ironworkers Drug Free Workplace Participation
  • Using an Engineered Tie Off System for Fall Protection
  • Daily Task Planning and Job Hazard Analysis
  • Offering Return to Work Programs for Injured Workers
  • Promoting our Safety Incentive Program
  • Employing a Full Time Safety Officer

Executive Management Commitment:
We believe that effective safety policies, programs and procedures require executive management participation.

Kevin Koester, President, takes ultimate responsibility for safety on all jobsites. He serves as a resource for pre-project planning and during construction assessments. He works cooperatively with contractors and employees to ensure that Apex’s commitment to safety is recognized and implemented every day on every jobsite.

Vice Presidents, Jill Johnson and Kelly Huestis, manage the company safety program. They work cooperatively with state agencies, retro groups, contractors, employees and other outside resources to develop effective safety procedures and ensure commitment to company policies and culture.

Safety Planning Methods for Projects:
Safety planning starts during the bidding process which allows Apex to plan and budget for the specific safety needs of each project. After project award the site specific safety programs are developed and pre-task planning starts. During construction, pre-task plans are continuously updated and any changes in the operation or construction sequence are addressed.
